Increase your tokens
How to give yourself more headroom, raising conversation limits, changing your global default, and buying more.
Last updated on
When you're running deep analyses or long back-and-forth sessions, you can give yourself more room to work.
Raise a conversation's limit
If a single chat is approaching its limit, raise it from the in-chat token control. You can:
- Choose a preset, 120k, 250k, 500k, or 1M, or enter a custom value between 20,000 and 1,000,000 tokens.
- Apply it to this chat only (a per-chat override) or change it globally as your new default.
Higher limits let conversations run longer, but they consume your monthly allowance faster. Raise the limit when you need it rather than leaving it high by default.
Change your global default
To stop adjusting every conversation, set your preferred default once in AI settings → token limit per conversation. Every new chat starts at that limit (an individual chat can still be overridden).
Buy more monthly tokens
The per-conversation limit only governs a single chat; it still draws from your monthly allowance. If you're hitting your monthly allowance (you'll see notices at 75% and 90%, and it's blocked at 100%), you can purchase additional tokens from the billing page. Additional purchased tokens are only used when your monthly allowance has been exhausted.
